2019 RAM 1500 vs 2018 RAM 1500

Proudly Serving Pittsburgh, PA

The 2018 Ram 1500 is a best-selling and top-performing pick-up truck. Model year 2019 sees the debut of a brand-new Ram 1500, with a new body, frame and rear axle, restyled exterior, updated suspension, a new infotainment system, and a bigger, plusher cabin. Both year’s trucks share rugged capabilities, exhilarating performance and terrific value.

Powertrain

The 2018 1500 offers a choice among three engines, beginning with a 3.6-liter V6 producing 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Next up is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 making 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft, and topping off with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 outputting 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard on two smaller engines and optional on the Hemi, where a 6-speed automatic is standard. For 2019, the diesel has been dropped, and mild hybrid eTorque versions of the 3.6-liter and 5.7-liter have been added, increasing torque by 90 and 130 lb-ft, respectively. The mechanical parking brake has been replaced by an electric one, and the rear brakes now feature heavy-duty 14.9-inch rotors.

Trims

The 2018 Ram 1500 comes in 11 trim levels that range from solid work truck to a luxury vehicle. Ram trimmed down the trim choices to six for 2019 while still meeting the full range of customer demands. Ram reduced the weight of the Ram 1500 by 225 pounds in 2019 and gave it a sleek, aerodynamic look featuring active grille shutters and an air splitter. New for 2019 is the Kentucky Derby Edition with special bed graphics and body-colored bumpers.

Off-Road Capability

Both years’ models offer 2WD and 4WD versions. Ram doubled down on Ram’s off-road capabilities for 2019 in several ways. Virtually all of the frame’s steel is now high-strength. The Quad Cab and Crew Cab models can now be ordered with Active-Level Four Corner Air Suspension, not found elsewhere in the light-duty truck segment. The suspension reduces drag and increases efficiency by lowering the truck height at highway speeds. In addition, these models get an innovative ELocker Electronic Locking Rear Differential, new 33-inch Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires from Goodyear, and an extra 2 inches of ride height for better ground clearance.
