Automakers at Jeep have doubled down on the compact crossover category by offering the 2018 Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Compass. At first glance, they both bear the pedigree of the Jeep brand with iconic styling and exterior design. They both have trail-rated off-road capabilities and features that keep you connected to the world around you. So, let's take a closer look at both vehicles.

The 2018 Jeep Renegade has two engine options. There's a 1.4 Liter, turbo four cylinder engine for the base models that's managed by a zesty six-speed manual transmission. The second choice is a 2.4 Liter, four cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb. ft. of torque. It's paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. All models can be equipped with front or all-wheel drive. The 2018 Jeep Compass has best-in-class fuel economy with 32 miles-per-gallon on the highway. It has a 2.4 Liter, inline four that achieves 180 horsepower and 175 lb. ft. of torque. You can choose between a 6 speed manual and a 9 speed automatic. Front-drive and all-wheel drive are optional, as well. Both vehicles have a Trailhawk model that showcases the best off-road capabilities of the Jeep brand. Trailhawk models come with a higher ground clearance, enhanced traction control, skid plates and trail-rated 4x4 capability.

Both the 2018 Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Compass have the signature seven slatted front grille of the Jeep brand. The Jeep Renegade is the smaller of the two vehicles and looks more like an iconic Jeep 4x4. It has rounded headlamps and an upright stance. Around back, the Renegade has X-stamped tail lights to pay homage to World War 2 era Jeep's and their X-marked gas cans. The Jeep Compass bears more of a resemblance to the Jeep Cherokee with a longer frame and sloping front grille. From the profile, the windows of the Compass taper toward the rear and the roof is painted to match the exterior body color.

These Jeeps can be outfitted with lots of technology and creature comforts. The Renegade Sport and trims above it can feature height-adjustable cargo floors, an 8.4-inch navigation and touchscreen display, along with a Beats Audio premium sound system. The Renegade Limited model has keyless entry and remote start, but a rearview camera is standard on all models. The 2018 Jeep Compass echoes many of these same advanced features, but even the base model Compass still comes well-equipped. It has a 5-inch UConnect display screen, two USB ports, and Bluetooth capabilities.
